Dear Leader,
Compliments of the season to you!
It is a privilege to served you weekly letters throughout 2024. We are few days to the end of the year and already looking towards the coming year.
Some days ago, I stumbled on a quote by Leonardo Da Vinci. Have you heard about him? Check what Wikipedia said about him here.
On his deathbed, Leonardo Da Vinci said “I have offended God and Mankind by doing so little with my life”.
I took some time to process this quote. A quote coming from a man whose work shaped his industry. Coming from a man whose works till date inspires many painters and sculptors? How do you mean you did so little with your life?
I said to myself, If someone like this thinks he did so little with his life, am I sure I have started even doing little with my life?
In that instant I started really thinking about the potentials we have and how much we really get to fulfill it before our time on earth is over.
And that’s the meat of my letter this week as we get set to end 2024.
Have you ever thought about your potential as a human being?
The late Dr. Myles Munroe stated that the richest place on the earth today is the graveyard because there you will find many dead who never fulfilled their purpose and their potential. Many who wanted to sing but died with the music inside of them.
All of us have potential but potential can go unfulfilled. The only way you reach your potential is GROWTH.
Do you have a plan for personal growth in 2025? What is your plan for personal growth in 2025? How do you plan to get better at what you do in the coming year?
Working hard or putting in long hours at work is not equal to growth.
For many years, I have learnt that people do not grow automatically. If you want to grow, you have to be intentional about it.
Every calendar year, you automatically get older, but you don’t automatically get better. Being better is an highly intentional process.
Every year, I commit myself to strategic intentional growth because no one will reach their potential by accident. Since the beginning of December, I have taken time to design my personal growth plan for the coming year. That’s how I prepare for a new calendar year.
So what is your own plan for personal growth in 2025? Do you have one yet? You must not leave it to chance.
Some years ago, to enable my growth, I came up with “My Daily 5”. This is my highly disciplined growth regimen made up of 5 things I must do every day to grow.
The most important thing for you as we approach a new year is to have a plan for personal growth, else, don’t expect 2025 to be different or better.
There are 3 things you should consider for personal growth:
Make a commitment to invest in yourself first. Before you invest in stocks, trade and properties, ensure you invest in yourself next year. Nobody will invest in you better than you invest in yourself. Be brutal about the investment you make in yourself.
Be consistent. Forever is the timeline for growth. One of the dangers of life is to believe you have arrived. My desire is to keep growing and learning until the day I leave the earth, not only for my benefit but for the benefit of others.
John F. Kennedy said, Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. So the day you stop learning, you stop leading. Be consistent.Create a growth environment. Environment shapes us. The reason we start something and don’t continue sometimes is because we do not have the supporting environment for it. To be a lifelong learner, you have to get out of a stagnant environment and distance yourself from people who have no desire to grow. If you want to grow in 2025, plug yourself into an environment where:
Others are ahead of you and modeling growth
Your focus is forward
The atmosphere is affirming
You are often pushed out of your comfort zone
You wake up excited
You are not afraid to fail
Keep this in mind: No one grows by accident. If you find yourself in an environment that doesn’t support growth, you either walk away or you take up the challenge to create it - that’s leadership in practice. Don’t stay stagnant.
Being around people who are better than we are has a tendency to make us stretch and improve ourselves. It is not always comfortable but it is always profitable.
So, what is your plan for personal growth in 2025? What will you do in 2025 to actively grow?
I advice you not to wait till you get into 2025 to have that plan ready. Take some time before the end of 2024 to design a personal growth plan for yourself.
