Find a way to serve
Dear Leader,
Happy New Month.
I trust this meets you in sound health.
Glad to welcome you to the second half of the year, and I pray it aligns well for you.
My letter to you this week is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life; no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.
People who find ways to serve enjoy the greatest level of contentment and satisfaction but most importantly, you cannot serve others without it coming back to you in multiplied form.
When I was in university, I spent my non-academic time volunteering with value adding organisations and for causes that added value to the society, and it became instrumental to finding where my passion lies.
There are many nonprofit organisations that could use your business skills - management, accounting, marketing, recruitment, fund raising, etc. Find a way to serve!
When you volunteer, you get a whole lot more than you give, but focus on giving not getting.
I read a research report about volunteerism that shows that people who volunteer live longer, have stronger immune systems, have fewer heart attacks, have higher self esteem and a deeper sense of meaning than those who don’t volunteer.
The research also shows that people who volunteer in their younger years are more likely to end up in more prestigious and high paying jobs than their non volunteering counterparts. To me, this is really just because volunteering is a powerful way of networking and often leads to business and career opportunities. One of the keys to success is building a huge network of relationships, and volunteering lets you meet all kinds of people you may never meet otherwise.
Volunteering is also a way to develop important success skills. If you are looking to build competencies, look for a place to volunteer and build. Volunteering time can well have a positive payoff by helping you land a future job.
Lastly, the world responds to givers more positively than to takers. People naturally want to support givers. Givers get! So at every point in time, ask yourself “ what am i giving”? You can give anything beyond money!
It can be as simple as teaching people what you currently know. Volunteer your time and your skills.
Zig Ziglar is known for the quote: You can get anything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.
This week, this month, Find a way to serve!
I’m rooting for you
Great Owete
