Dear Leader,
I trust this meets you in sound health and pursuit of wisdom.
Very recently, i read about an experiment performed by a group of scientist who wanted to measure how well laboratory rats could live under different circumstances.
The scientists dropped a rat into a jar of water that had been placed in total darkness and then timed how long the animal would continue swimming before it finally gave up and allowed itself to drown. In this particular specimen, they found out that the rat usually lasted about 3 minutes.
Then they dropped another rat into the same kind of jar with water, but this time instead of placing it in total darkness, they allowed a ray of light to shine into it.
Under this circumstance, they found out that the rat kept swimming for 36 hours. That is about 700 times longer than the rat that was placed in the dark.
The simple lesson from this rat experiment is that because the rat in the second experiment could see, it continued to have hope.
The day I read about this experiment, it reminded me a lot about the critical element of HOPE. And because we are in the 2nd half of the year, i thought to share a reminder about the to have renewed HOPE.
A couple of thing may not have gone well for you in the first half of 2023, but If animals could have hope because of light, how much more me and you?
People say hope is not a strategy. I agree. Hope may not be a strategy but it is a powerful driver of the human spirit and according to one of my role models, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili “Hope is inexhaustible”.
We live in a very challenging time in our country and so the most important element that must not fail in our lives is HOPE.
…because nothing has failed if your hope hasn’t failed.
However, HOPE comes from what you see, not with your physical eyes, but through your mind.
If rats can leave longer because they continued to see, then VISION is a powerful source of hope.
If things didn’t go as planned in the first half of 2023 and you’re losing hope, please look at your vision again. And if you don’t have one, cast one for yourself.
These are critical times where what will give you hope is not your government or your currency but what you see ahead. Whatever you can not see ahead of you can not come to you.
You have to see beyond your immediate situation and see what you want to have. That is the source of HOPE.
It is said that a person can live 40 days without food, 4 days without water, 4 minutes without air, but only 4 seconds without HOPE.
Once you are hopeless, then you’re helpless.
Every time you see beyond your current situation and have a picture for your future success, you create enough energy to keep moving.
So, despite all odds, in Nigeria, keep your HOPE alive.
I’m rooting for you.
