Dear Leader,
Happy New Week.
I trust this letter meets you in pursuit of wisdom.
If you are very close to me, one of the words you would mostly catch me use is “focus on what you can control”. I have always used that statement to stay sane, optimistic and productive.
Now, that statement came from a realisation that, good or bad, we are ultimately responsible for whatever we experience in life and that if we want to be successful, we have to commit to taking 100% responsibility for our lives.
If you really look closely, the level of growth or accomplishment you experience, the level of result, the quality of relationships and health status, your income level or debt - You are responsible!
Just like me, most of us were brought up in a culture and environment where we blame something or someone outside of ourselves for the aspects of our lives we don’t like. We like to point the finger of blame on our friends, our parents, our bosses, our country leaders, our economy, our lack of money, etc - we always look for something or someone except ourselves to put the blame on.
Don’t get me wrong, external factors exist but, if you really look at life, what we blame as limiting factors are not truly the limiting factors. We are our own barrier!
I have learnt to create peace in my life by both knowing that it is my responsibility to create the quality of life and results I want to produce and also knowing that I must only focus on what I can control.
But what about you?
Are you really taking 100% responsibility for your life? Do you still blame the government? Do you still blame your parents, your background, etc., for where you are in life?
If you want to really achieve growth in your career and leadership this year, you must give up blaming and complaining and channel your energy to taking total responsibility for your life - and that includes your failures.
You have to stop telling yourself stories of why you can’t act and why you haven’t done the things you need to do.
Dear leader, you just have to stop blaming anything and anyone this year.
Focus on what you can control - your response! Because it is not what happens around us or what happens to us that matters, it is how we respond to what happens.
How you will respond to what’s happening around you will show if you’re really ready for growth this year.
You have to train yourself to always take a position that you possess the power to make your life different and produce your desired outcome. Anything short of this mindset is a victim mentality and that mentality is not for leaders like you.
For every time you say “It is not possible”, hundreds of people with similar circumstances are succeeding. It is not the external factor, YOU are the factor.
This week, commit to change your response to every event until you get your desired outcome.
There are only three things you can control in our life - Your thoughts, Your Self Image and Your actions. How you use these 3 things determines everything you experience.
You are not a leader if you keep blaming someone or something else for your lack of success.
Say after me: This year, I give up blaming. I give up complaining. I take actions that will help me achieve my desired outcomes.
That’s it for this week - Take control of your life!
Until next week,
My name is Great Owete
Thank you for such insight.
I will take responsibility for my actions this week.
